The Clinical Observation of Tuberculosis of Spine

Abstract
The pre-operative clinical data was analyzed on 644 cases of spine tuberculosis.
The total cases of bone and joint tuberculosis was 1, 160 cases and the spine tuberculosis were 644(55.5%) cases. The male and female proportion was 55.7: 44.3 and the more than a half of cases were under ten years of age. The most prominent incidence of spine tuberculosis was in three to six years of age group with 37.3% of all cases.
The locational incidence of spine tuberculosis was thoracic spine especially under the ten years of age group but in the adult more incidence was on the lumbar spine. The most frequent number of vertebral destruction was two segments and next to it were three and four segments. The total number of vertebral destruction were 1,918 of 644 cases and generally the incidence of involvement were increased gradually on the vertebral segments which locate lower in spinal column with most incidence on four and fifth segment of lumbar spine.
The paravertebral abscess was complicated 41.4%. of whole cases of cervical and. dorsal tuberculosis and one of specific finding was the fact that the patavertebral abscess spread more upward than lower. Psoas abscess rate were 59. 1% of the cases who has the lesion lower than dorso-lumbar spine.
Pott¢¥s paralysis were developed on 15 cases(6.5%) out of dorsal tuberculosis and the level of paralysis were middle or upper segment area to whole destructive vertebral. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate were increased on 85.9% of patients in average of 43.2mm/h. About 46% of whole cases had pulmonary tuberculosis accompanied with spine lesion and most of cases(61.6%) were delayed to visit hospital more than one year from the onset of the diseases.
The 326 cases out of whole 644 cases were treated by operative procedure, however, the result will be published later for the comparison of result with various methods of operation.
